A dead newborn was allegedly kept in the freezer of a hospital for two weeks when the father couldn’t afford the medical bills. His wife was also barred from leaving the hospital.
In a Facebook post by Mr Wan Cai Official (UKVJ), the father shared another incident that happened soon after his newborn’s death, where he was allegedly insulted by the doctor.
“You’ve given birth to a disabled child, and you don’t even know how to handle your baby’s remains?” the doctor allegedly told the grieving parents.
The man also said that his wife was not treated well at the unnamed private hospital, with no medical staff attending to her stitches and blood pressure.
“The man initially wanted to send his wife to the government hospital, but he was told by the doctor that it was too late for that because her contractions had already progressed to a 5 cm dilation. He was told that he could settle the bill after the labour.”
After 30 minutes, the doctor informed the man that the newborn had multiple complications, and for an expert to handle the case, the cost would be higher, which the man couldn’t afford.
5 minutes later, the doctor came out of the labour room once again and told the man that the newborn’s pulse was getting weaker, and was in a critical condition.
“Let the newborn go peacefully,” the man told the doctor.
The newborn did not make it
The bill cost more than RM3,000 but after deduction of the deposit, the man had RM2,480 left to pay. The deceased newborn and the man’s wife were not allowed to leave the hospital before the bill was settled.
Throughout the couple of weeks, the man tried his best to get financial help, before he eventually met Mr Wan Cai, a funeral service helper who helped him settle everything.
In another Facebook post, Mr Wan Cai also stated that the hospital is expected to come up with a statement regarding the matter soon.
