THE Paris Court of Appeal has annulled in its entirety the purported “Final Award” rendered by Gonzalo Stampa on Feb 28, 2022 and ordered the so-called Sulu claimants to pay EUR200,000 (RM957,140) in costs to Malaysia.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet was notified of the matter by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said today.
"Yesterday, the Paris Court of Appeal completely overturned what was called the Final Award in the case of the claim of the party claiming to be the heirs of Sulu.
"The court found that the individual who issued the Final Award did not have any authority or jurisdiction to do so.
"The court also ordered the Sulu claimant to pay costs to Malaysia," he said at a press conference in Parliament, today. Fahmi also stressed that the decision once again proves that the claim against Malaysia was baseless and legally flawed.
“Malaysia will continue to defend its sovereignty, immunity and national interests in any court if the situation requires it,” he said.
In the meantime, he added, a full statement regarding the latest development will be shared by Azalina. – December 10, 2025
