Sabah Chief Minister hails Paris court’s annulment of US$14.9 billion Sulu claim award as a decisive victory for Malaysia’s sovereignty
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has hailed a Paris court ruling as a decisive victory for Malaysia.
The Paris Court of Appeal annulled a US$14.9 billion ‘Final Award’ in favour of self-proclaimed Sulu claimants on December 9.
Hajiji reiterated the Sabah Government’s firm stand in defending the state’s sovereignty within the Federation of Malaysia.
“The decision of the Paris Court of Appeal once again vindicated Sabah’s stand all this while,” he said in a statement.
He stressed that the state government would never entertain such claims.
The court concluded that the arbitrator, Gonzalo Stampa, lacked jurisdiction over the case.
It further established that no valid arbitration agreement bound Malaysia to the proceedings.
Hajiji said the Sabah Government remained strongly committed to collaborating with the Federal Government.
This collaboration aims to quash any future claims that may arise.
“We also express our gratitude to the Federal Government for their hard work in defending Sabah’s sovereignty,” he said.
The Chief Minister was responding to a statement from the Sulu Special Secretariat War Room.
The secretariat acts on behalf of the Malaysian Government in the matter. – Bernama
