Over the past few weeks, there appears to have been a number of issues when it comes to dress codes and official public buildings such as hospitals, police stations and city councils.

In yet another case of attire policing, a woman attempting to enter into the parliamentary grounds was recently disallowed from entering despite wearing a knee-length skirt.

In various reports, the visitor wanted to meet with Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii yesterday (February 20), but was expelled from the building for wearing a knee-length skirt with a slit, which exposed part of her thigh.

It was reported that media practitioners at the Parliament lobby witnessed a security officer telling the woman to leave the premises.

“Get her out,” said the security officer, in a firm tone to parliamentary staff to which the visitor agreed and left the building.

It was initially reported that the woman was Yii’s aide. However, he has since clarified with Guang Ming Daily that she was a visitor who wanted to meet him.

According to the parliamentary visitor dress code, skirts must be below knee length. However, the guideline does not clarify if slit skirts are allowed or not.
