Kota Kinabalu: The Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) reaffirmed its stand not to collaborate with any political party or coalition in facing the coming 17th State Election (PRN17).
It comes as the party continues to be linked by some to Warisan — another local party that also announced it will contest solo. KDM President Datuk Peter Anthony is currently sitting in jail for corruption.
KDM Sec-Gen Willie Jude Junaidi said it was illogical for the party to be associated with Warisan, as both parties are expected to contest against each other in many constituencies.
He said rumours linking KDM to Warisan have persisted for quite some time and have intensified since the dissolution of the State Assembly.
“Perhaps our political opponents have run out of ideas and are now using ‘cybertroopers’ to spread claims that votes for KDM will go to Warisan.
“But it’s not surprising. Naturally, they will try to exploit any issue to weaken us.
“I won’t deny that such claims have caused some confusion, as many divisional leaders have asked me about it. That’s why I want to make it very clear — we are focused on facing PRN17 and will contest solo,” he said.
