TAMPARULI: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has announced three of its candidates for the coming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN), signaling the party’s readiness to contest key constituencies.
The announcement was made by KDM Deputy President Datuk Wetrom Bahanda during a gathering with KDM Zon Tenghilan at the SRA Tenghilan Hall on Sunday.
Among the candidates is KDM Vice President and former Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Associate Professor Dr Gaim James Lunkapis, who will contest the Tamparuli state seat, currently held by Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim.
Also named were Datuk Almudin Kaida, KDM Kota Belud Division Chief, for the Pintasan seat and Mckery Victor, KDM Moyog Coordinator, for the Moyog seat.
“No more delays. The state election is near, and today we’re announcing three candidates in Tenghilan. God willing, they will bring victory for KDM. This line-up blends professionals, youth and experienced leaders,” Wetrom said.
He expressed optimism that, with unity and the right momentum, KDM could emerge as a key component of the next state government.
Wetrom also highlighted Sabah’s continued lag in development, particularly in basic infrastructure like roads, and stressed the urgency for political change.
He said KDM, contesting independently, is committed to ensuring that a local party plays a central role in the post-election government.
“This is the people’s hope, and we are determined to make it a reality,” he added.
Earlier, Dr Gaim, who also serves as KDM Tamparuli Coordinator, spoke about longstanding local issues in Tenghilan, including unreliable water supply, frequent flooding and the lack of ATM facilities.
“KDM is committed to solving these issues if given the mandate,” he said.
