PETALING JAYA: DAP has suspended a member who is alleged to have given a provocative speech at a party function, after a video went viral.

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said an investigation found that the event was held in June, and not during the current election period.

“I have instructed for the individual’s membership to be suspended immediately. DAP’s disciplinary committee will take further action.

“This individual is an ordinary member and does not in any way represent the party’s leadership,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also claimed the video was intentionally made viral by “certain parties” to break the momentum of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional’s campaign for tomorrow’s state elections.

In the video, which has gained more than 22,000 views, a man wearing a DAP vest can be seen delivering a speech in Cantonese, with subtitles, berating a “Parti Serban”.

He said the party was infamous for playing up religious and racial issues, and frequently said it would “win big” in the six state elections.

“They think we are easy to bully, but we are not afraid of them because we have your support.

“Even Umno has come forth to ask for an apology from us. What’s more hilarious is that MCA (has sought an apology from us) too,” he said.
