Partial lane closures in Penang from Aug 20 to Oct 31 will facilitate preliminary construction works for the Mutiara Line LRT project

GEORGE TOWN: Periodic partial lane closures along Jalan Tun Dr Awang and Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, from the Sri Relau Complex to the Penang Golf Club, near here, will be implemented from Aug 20 to Oct 31 to facilitate preliminary construction works of the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in the area.

Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said the 72-day closure, to be implemented from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm daily, was to facilitate drainage and road widening works under Package CMC1 of the Mutiara Line project.

“The closures involve several lanes, including the right lane of Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, in front of the Sri Relau Complex, heading towards Komtar, as well as the left lane of Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, starting from shop lots near SJK (C) Min Sin to the Penang Golf Club heading towards Komtar.

“In addition, the left lane at the traffic light intersection of Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim and Jalan Tun Dr Awang heading towards Komtar, as well as the leftmost lane on Jalan Tun Dr Awang, near the Taman Melati Jaya residential area heading towards Bayan Lepas, will also be closed, while other lanes will remain open to traffic,” it said in a statement today.

It added that signboards, traffic cones and flagmen would be stationed at the affected locations to facilitate traffic control and ensure the safety of road users.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and follow the directional signage provided when passing the areas during the closure period.

For enquiries regarding the closures, the public can contact the MRT Careline at 1-800-88-6782 or email feedback_pml@mymrt.com.my.
