ANY political party seeking to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Sabah, whether during elections or in forming the state government, must demonstrate good governance, eliminate corruption, and remain committed to the welfare of the people, said PH Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said he was open to working with any party that shared PH’s vision and acted sincerely towards achieving Sabah’s development goals.
“Anyone who wishes to work with us (PH) must abide by this principle — to use power to defend the people’s welfare,” Anwar said during a public rally and the announcement of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidates for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) here on Saturday night.
Among those present were PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar, Vice Presidents Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, Information Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and PKR Sabah State Leadership Council Chairman Datuk Mustafa Sakmud.
At the event, Anwar, who is also PKR President, had introduced 10 candidates set to represent the party in the coming polls, and announced that PH would contest 23 state seats in total.
He urged Sabah voters to scrutinise the promises and rhetoric of political candidates carefully, warning against falling prey to false pledges and political manipulation.
“We can heat up the crowd, we can make people clap, but in the end, the leaders grow rich while the cheering people remain poor. You come to rally and cheer, but once they win, who will care about you?” he said.
The Prime Minister also cautioned that racial politics had caused significant harm to the nation and fuelled unnecessary division.
He emphasised the need to strengthen political stability and cooperation between the Federal and state governments to safeguard the welfare of Malaysians, particularly in Sabah.
“This is our opportunity to work as a team. Let us use the time we have left for the good of the people and to restore the nation’s image as a country of integrity,” he said.
Anwar also announced that all component parties under PH contesting in PRN17 would use the coalition’s logo as their common symbol.
