Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has lodged a police report over social media posts and accounts allegedly linking the party to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
Its publicity chief Nicholas Ban said the report was lodged together with Youth chief Loong Kok Seng and several party members after the party discovered what it described as false and misleading content circulating online.
He said the allegations were unfounded, noting that the matter had been addressed through legal proceedings which resulted in a High Court decision in 2019 to lift a freeze on the party's bank account and return most of the funds involved.
Nicholas alleged that certain parties were attempting to revive the issue despite the court outcome and warned that LDP would not hesitate to take legal action against those responsible for publishing or sharing defamatory content.
He also urged the public to exercise caution when consuming information on social media and to verify facts before believing or disseminating unverified claims.
