PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has called on Bersatu to take stern action against its Perlis assemblymen who were involved in submitting statutory declarations to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, retracting their support for Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
He said the move had created a disharmonious political atmosphere in the state and directly threatened the integrity of the Perikatan Nasional administration.
“I hope Bersatu will also take stern actions against their assemblyman who was involved in the signing of the SD,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday night.
“Such a move is essential as a sign of respect to other component members of Perikatan as well as ensuring that discipline and integrity of the coalition are maintained.”
Tuan Ibrahim drew a comparison with a previous incident involving Perikatan leaders who broke ranks to support the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Bersatu, at that time, had sacked the membership of the Nenggiri assemblyman for supporting PMX (Anwar Ibrahim), which triggered a by-election even when such actions (the support) do not involve SDs,” The Star reported him saying.
“Compared to Nenggiri, what happened in Perlis is far more serious. It directly affects the integrity of the Perikatan government. As main partners of Perikatan, we are confident that Bersatu will act consistently and firmly.”
His remarks came a day after PAS took disciplinary action against three of its own Perlis assemblymen, signalling that the Islamist party was unwilling to compromise on internal discipline despite the political risks involved.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS had already acted against those found to be involved, even though the decision could threaten the stability of the Perlis government.
“PAS has taken action against the trio as the party is not willing to compromise on discipline,” he said.
“Although the decision may pose a risk to the stability of the Perlis government, PAS is of the view that the party's principles and integrity must be prioritised.”
“I urge PAS members and supporters to remain calm, be disciplined and not be influenced by provocation which will only benefit the opponent,” he added.
On Wednesday, three PAS assemblymen in Perlis – Saad Seman of Chuping, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail of Bintong and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim of Guar Sanji – were sacked from the party with immediate effect.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that their memberships had been terminated following a special meeting of the PAS central working committee in Rusila, Marang. While no official reason was given, the move is widely believed to be linked to the submission of statutory declarations by eight Perlis assemblymen declaring a loss of confidence in Mohd Shukri’s leadership.
The group reportedly included five Bersatu assemblymen alongside the three from PAS.
Perlis has 15 seats in the state legislative assembly. In the 15th General Election, Perikatan Nasional won 14 seats, with PAS securing nine and Bersatu five, while Pakatan Harapan, through PKR, captured the remaining seat in Indera Kayangan.
Without the backing of the eight assemblymen who signed the statutory declarations, Mohd Shukri would lose his simple majority in the assembly, placing his position as mentri besar in jeopardy and deepening uncertainty over the future of the Perikatan-led state government. - December 26, 2025
