PAS has refuted claims that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will remain as chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), stressing that no definitive decision has been made on the leadership appointment.

PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said that, to date, the party has not received any official meeting invitation from PN to discuss the appointment of a new chairman.

“Up to now, we have not received any invitation, so we shall wait. No decision has been made,” Abdul Hadi told reporters, addressing speculation over the coalition’s top leadership.

He explicitly denied assertions that Muhyiddin had been approved to continue as PN chairman, reiterating that the party’s stance remains consistent with its congress resolution, which stipulates that the PN chairmanship candidate should come from PAS.

“No, no decision. That is the PAS Muktamar resolution — the PN chairman candidate must be from PAS,” he said.

Abdul Hadi clarified that the delay in appointing the PN chairman was not due to any internal disagreements within the coalition but was primarily a matter of administrative and management processes.

He projected that a decision could be finalised within one to two weeks, as the coalition prepares strategically for the upcoming 16th General Election (PRU16).

The remarks come amid ongoing speculation regarding the future leadership of Perikatan Nasional, highlighting PAS’s intent to maintain influence over key positions within the coalition while navigating internal governance and election preparations. - January 23, 2026
