Recently, caretaker Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob announced that free bus services would be provided for university students returning to Kelantan to vote.
He had said the offer was to help students outside the state return to cast their votes on August 12 and that the programme was handled by Kelantan Treasury Office and the State Development Office.
Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has since urged the other five states involved in the state elections to emulate Kelantan’s programme to provide free bus services for university students.
He said that such a programme would help to increase voter turnout and that such a provision is not a form of bribery.
He explained that it is something that is being done to help voters of any political affiliation so that they can fulfill their responsibility.
“At the same time, the government should control any hike in the price of flight tickets leading up to polling day.”
“Out-of-towners will be returning home to vote to fulfill their responsibilities as citizens. When it comes to important dates or celebrations, I have been told that ticket prices of tickets rise,” he shared.
“Therefore, I suggest that the government monitors this and maintain ticket prices to avoid burdening the people,” Tuan Ibrahim added.
