KUALA LUMPUR: Two Pas lawmakers have urged Malaysia Airlines to replace alcoholic beverages with traditional Malaysian drinks such as sirap bandung, cendol, and ais batu campur (ABC) on its flights, the New Straits Times reported.

Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki of Parit proposed the idea while Muhammad Ismi Mat Taib of Parit Buntar supported it during the debate on the Supply Bill 2026.

They argued that promoting local beverages would better represent Malaysia’s culture and avoid inconveniencing Muslim cabin crew required to serve alcohol.

Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman of Sik cited a 2015 Malaysia Airlines flight that was forced to turn back after a drunk passenger caused a disturbance, adding that successful airlines like Saudi Airlines and Royal Brunei do not serve alcohol.

Their call echoed earlier suggestions, including one made in 2017 by then Pas Youth deputy chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari following a similar incident involving an intoxicated passenger.
