The 16th General Election (GE16) isn’t expected to take place until 2027, but talks about the next Prime Minister are already happening. Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) expressed that the party is ready to lead the pluralistic country, but its President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, said no to the top post.

Hadi cited age and health factors, saying that he is no longer qualified to be the leader of a country.

“In the Quran, it’s stated that a leader needs to be knowledgeable, healthy, and have integrity. I am no longer qualified. We’ll choose someone who is below 70, who is stronger,” reported Sinar Harian.

Hadi, who is 78 this year, said that PAS will discuss with the friends in Perikatan Nasional (PN) if the opposition wins in the next GE.

Many PAS members are qualified to become Prime Minister, says Hadi

During his speech, Hadi also pointed out that many PAS members are qualified for the role of the Prime Minister, but they opt to keep a low profile.

“They don’t want to be in the spotlight because they are aware that the role of a Prime Minister is a huge responsibility.”

In a speech in Kedah this morning (September 15), Hadi also said that ‘MADANI’ is merely a slogan created by the government to con Malaysians as it lacks guidance and direction, and highlighted that the non-Muslims will not be affected if PAS takes over as the government.

Former Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was recently named the candidate for the 11th Prime Minister in GE16 during Bersatu’s Annual General Meeting. Muhyiddin, who is also 78 this year, is the president of Bersatu.

What do you think of Muhyiddin’s potential comeback as Prime Minister?
