PAS Information Chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, has described the initiative by DAP Penang to raise funds for classes on Chinese names and culture for PAS leaders as an interesting move. However, he suggested that the funds be instead used to provide Islamic education for DAP leaders.
"I am truly touched by the sincerity of DAP Penang, which is willing to seek funds to organize classes for PAS leaders. This is an impressive and commendable effort," he stated in a Facebook post on Monday.
Nevertheless, the Pasir Mas MP pointed out that a DAP minister had previously quoted something that was not a hadith but presented it as one, which he considered an insult to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
"This mistake is far more serious than merely confusing Chinese names and cultural aspects. What is more disappointing is that this mistake has never been corrected or followed by an apology to this day," he added.
He also questioned a minister’s statement about organizing a ‘solat hajat’ (special Islamic prayer), considering it a misuse of religious terminology.
"I would like to propose that it would be better if the funds collected were used to educate DAP ministers on the basics of Islam," he further stated.
According to him, although the ministry led by the said minister has a substantial budget allocation, the funds might have been used for other purposes.
"The budget has probably been spent on decorating offices with Christmas, Chinese New Year, and upcoming Hari Raya decorations, or even for toilet competitions and other activities," he said sarcastically.
Previously, DAP Penang had announced efforts to raise funds to organize classes on Chinese names and culture for PAS leaders. This followed an incident involving Perak PAS Commissioner, Razman Zakaria, who linked Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, to the Yeoh family of the YTL Corporation Bhd conglomerate.
