PAS says Najib can still contribute ideas and experience to nation

PAS also prays that Najib will be blessed with good health while serving the remainder of his sentence at home and believes he can still contribute ideas, views and experience for the good of the country.

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS believes former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak can still contribute his ideas, views and experience to the country after being granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the development was significant not only for Najib’s family, but also for Malaysians who remember and appreciate his contributions and service.

“PAS expresses its highest gratitude to Allah SWT and conveys its deepest appreciation to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, for granting a conditional pardon to Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“This development is very meaningful not only to Najib’s family, but to Malaysians who continue to remember and appreciate his contributions and service as a leader who brought development to the country and prosperity to the people.

“PAS also prays that Najib will be blessed with good health while serving the remainder of his sentence at home and believes he can still contribute ideas, views and experience for the good of the country,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, the King consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.

The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara on Friday.

The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU JPM) said the conditional pardon could be revoked if Najib breached any of the stipulated conditions, in which case he would have to return to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

Najib began serving his prison sentence in August 2022 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction over the misappropriation of RM42 million belonging to SRC International.

His original sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment and a RM210 million fine was reduced to six years and RM50 million by the Pardons Board in 2024.
