PAS willing to hand over individual responsible for Jalur Gemilang error

PAS has declared its readiness to cooperate with authorities, including handing over the individual responsible for the inaccurate depiction of the Jalur Gemilang in a promotional poster, should the police request it.

The controversy erupted following the circulation of a logo for the upcoming Teguh Memimpin Terengganu (TMT) 2025 gathering, which showed the Malaysian flag’s star with an incorrect number of points. The party has since issued a public apology and replaced the logo with a corrected version.

PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the party was open to cooperating with law enforcement if required.

“We have never been closed off. If the authorities request us to hand over (the individual), we will do so without issue,” he said.

Taking a swipe at critics, he added, “Being closed off is your party’s culture—you’re the ones currently practising corruption. Your own party is in disarray.”

Ahmad Fadhli’s remarks came in response to calls from PKR leaders for greater accountability over the incident.

PKR Deputy Information Chief Chua Wei Kiat had earlier criticised PAS’s response, calling the party’s public apology insufficient. He accused PAS of double standards, pointing out that its youth wing had previously been vocal over a similar mistake involving the national flag in a Chinese-language newspaper.

“PAS Terengganu should not merely apologise. They should identify and hand over the person responsible to the authorities,” said Chua.

In return, Ahmad Fadhli questioned Chua’s grasp of the legal process.

“I suggest he study the law first. According to the law, only when the police request someone be handed over should that happen. You can’t just volunteer people without a request,” he stated.

The TMT 2025 event is a major gathering organised by PAS Terengganu, and the misrepresentation of the national flag sparked criticism on social media and from political opponents. While the party has acted swiftly to correct the error, the issue has reignited debates over political consistency and respect for national symbols. - May 15, 2025
