Kuala Lumpur: PAS Youth will stage a rally on June 14 to protest against the Urban Renewal Act (URA), which is expected to be tabled during the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting.

Its chief, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, said the exact venue would be confirmed later, but the gathering will be held in the Klang Valley.

He said the early announcement was intended to give political groups and civil society organisations time to mobilise and prepare.

Afnan also said that all PAS Youth divisions have been instructed to deliver a pre-drafted memorandum to their respective MPs, which will include 10 to 15 proposed alternatives to the proposed legislation.

On March 24, Afnan said its youth wing would not be cowed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s warning against efforts to derail the URA.

Anwar had previously urged the opposition not to obstruct the bill, which he said is aimed at improving the lives of urban Malays.
