Pasig launches law school for poor students

THE Pasig City government announced Thursday the establishment of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) School of Law for students from low-income families.

Former International Criminal Court judge and former University of the Philippines College of Law dean Raul Pangalangan was appointed as the founding dean of the law school.

The city government described the move as a “historic step” for both PLP and Pasig City, noting the law school will be built on the principles of integrity, public service, good governance, and transformative justice.

The appointment of Pangalangan was formally accepted during the PLP Board of Regents meeting on Wednesday, May 20, after an invitation from Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, who chairs the university’s Board of Regents.

Pangalangan, a Pasig resident since the 1960s, said he hopes to help establish a law school that would serve as a “beacon of hope” at a time when the country faces many challenges.
