MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig City government on Saturday announced the pilot testing of GCash Visa Cards for the distribution of cash subsidies to solo parents, as part of efforts to provide faster and more convenient financial assistance.
The pilot program, implemented through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), distributed GCash Visa Cards to 416 newly enrolled solo parent beneficiaries during an event at the Function Hall in Barangay Kalawaan.
According to the city government, the initiative aims to explore alternative methods that can streamline and expedite the release of cash subsidies while reducing reliance on manual payout processes.
Under the program's initial phase, qualified beneficiaries received the cards, allowing them to access their subsidies through a more efficient and convenient platform.
Pasig officials said the pilot is being assessed as a potential enhancement to the city's social welfare service delivery system.
The city clarified that LandBank cash cards remain the primary mode of cash subsidy distribution for solo parent beneficiaries. The partnership with GCash is currently being tested as an alternative mechanism and has not replaced the existing payout system.
Local officials have yet to announce whether the GCash Visa Card program will be expanded beyond the initial 416 beneficiaries pending the results of the pilot assessment.
