A few days prior to the weekend, it was reported that a minister had gone to KLIA and caused a scene.
It turns out that the minister was Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, who admitted in a statement that he was at KLIA.
However, he explained that he went there to battle corruption as a female traveller from China had been offered a “package” by some officers there.
In response to the explanation, Pasir Gudang MP, Hassan Karim said on Twitter that the Tourism Minister’s job is not to battle corruption.
“Exposing corruption is SPM, the police and the Immigration department’s work under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Not the job of the tourism minister.”
The MP continued, “The minister was obstructing a civil servant from doing their job and this is a wrongdoing under the Penal Code, he also misused his power according to the SPRM Act. He (the minister) couldn’t even do his job right.”
Many netizens disagree with the Pasir Gudang MP and believe battling corruption is a collective effort.
“You are wrong. What messages are you trying to spread here? Battling corruption is everyone’s duty no matter their position. If a minister is showing a good example by battling corruption, those below will be afraid to participate (in corruption). So, please kindly correct your statement.”
“Wrong. We all have that responsibility, no matter ministers or just a citizen. He’s doing his job as this act of corruption might affect Malaysia’s tourism which is under his ministry. Don’t enable corruption and destroyers of the nation.”
“Why not Pak Hassan? Battling corruption is everyone’s duty. If not then why did Rafizi expose corruption before this? I don’t agree with you on this.”
