JULY 14 — Pass the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2026, then focus on the next thing: OPPA and code of prosecutorial conduct
It is heartening to read the change of heart of the several PKR backbenchers who had objected to the original Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2026 to decouple the public prosecutor’s role from the Attorney General’s Chambers.
The backbenchers, who include Subang MP Wong Chen, have reportedly welcomed the so-called revised edition and would back its enactment.
“We welcome these changes as they meet all our expectations by giving Parliament a greater scrutiny role. As such, we pledge our full support for this Bill,” Wong Chen said at a press conference at the Parliament building.
With great respect, the changes have been there to be read in the report of the parliamentary special select committee (PSSC) published in the official website of Parliament on June 22. Read it here, particularly pages 556-559.

It’s a lesson in reading the whole report and nothing but the whole report before jumping to conclusions.
