Kota Kinabalu: The call for the Federal Government to establish a Consulate General Office of the Philippines in Sabah to address perennial issues of Filipino illegal immigrants is a laudable proposal made by Senator Datuk Bobbey A. Suan.
However, several Filipino Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) said the proposal is far from reality due to the long-existing controversial Sabah claim issue raised by the heirs of the Sultanate of Sulu.
While debating on the Royal Decree in Parliament recently, the Senator suggested to the Federal Government to set up the Consulate General Office of the Philippines to address the problem of illegal immigrants who continue to cause various social issues in the State.
