In Putrajaya, The Star reported, Anwar said: “Those who drag the country into endless racial debate did little when they held power except to enrich themselves. Malaysia was too often squeezed and dragged into unending arguments over race, to the point that even his coming visit to Johor to discuss IT and artificial intelligence risked being drowned out by talk of racial struggle.
“But when they had power, they did nothing or did very little. More was done to rake in wealth for themselves, not for the people,” he said when launching Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd’s (PUNB) SParK 2026: Transformasi Niaga on Saturday (July 4).
In Muar, The Sun Daily reported, citing Anwar urging the youth to reject race-based politics and vote for future-focused leaders ahead of the Johor state election
Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said young voters should make their choice based on a leader’s ability to address issues that directly affect people’s lives, such as education, employment opportunities and the state’s development, rather than being swayed by racial sentiments.
In Kulai, on Saturday (4 July), Anwar took a swipe at the Johor government's decision to dissolve the state assembly early, saying an early election was no guarantee of a bigger victory for Barisan Nasional, The New Straits Times reported.
The New Straits Times reported: "They think that by calling the election early, they will win more seats. Not necessarily," Anwar said at the Kulai Kita GenK Madani X programme.
"The earlier they hold it, the more they may lose," he said, referring to the June 5 dissolution of the state assembly, about 15 months before its term was due to expire.
