KUALA LUMPUR – The family of Pastor Raymond Koh, who disappeared in 2017, has urged Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay to lead the reopened investigation into the case.
Koh's wife Susanna Liew said this is because Ayob is renowned for "impeccable integrity and honesty", and thus, she is confident he would do the right thing in finding a closure in the case.
"He is known amongst members of the public as a person of integrity and honesty, and we have confidence that he won't be intimidated, daunted or frightened to do what is just and right, despite high-ranking police officers being involved in the abductions.
"The appointment of Ayob, who is also known for his extensive investigative experience and strong public stance on discipline and integrity among the police officers under him, would send a clear signal that the investigation is being taken seriously and will proceed independently, thoroughly and with credibility," she said in a statement yesterday, reported the New Straits Times.
Liew noted the different conclusions made in the three previous police probes into the disappearances of Koh and social activist Amri Che Mat, as established in the National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) inquiry, the Special Task Force report and the High Court's decision.

In the statement, Liew further requested a meeting with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, along with her family and lawyers, to speak about the case in the coming week.
"I hope you will kindly grant us a few minutes of your time to meet with you.
"This is a deeply personal and painful matter for me and my family. After so many years, the High Court order and now your words have given us hope that the authorities will act with determination," she said, noting the previous meeting she had with then-home minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The High Court previously ruled that the government must pay RM37 million in damages to Koh's family, and RM3.26 million to Amri's family after determining that the authorities were responsible for their disappearances. Koh disappeared on February 13, 2017, while Amri was last seen on November 24, 2016.
Following the ruling, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that the police will reopen investigations into Koh's disappearance. – November 13, 2025
