Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network in Patiala district and directed departments concerned to act swiftly in resolving issues related to laying of Torrent Gas pipelines.
Chairing a meeting with officials of Torrent Gas and various government departments, the DC appealed to residents to opt for PNG connections to reduce dependence on LPG cylinders.
Aggarwal instructed Torrent Gas Company officials to accelerate the ongoing work so that Patiala could be declared an LPG-free zone at the earliest.
Company representatives informed the administration that the PNG network had already been laid for around 30,000 households in the city. Out of these, 21,000 households have booked connections, while 15,000 households have already been connected. Nearly 12,500 households are currently receiving PNG supply for cooking purposes.
Officials said around 400 km of pipeline network had been laid in the city so far and more than 100 commercial connections had also been provided. Torrent Gas has additionally started work on the PNG network in Nabha town.
During the meeting, company representatives highlighted issues pertaining to different departments. Taking note of the matter, the Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to coordinate and ensure timely resolution of problems.
He further directed departments and agencies, including PSPCL, the Patiala Development Authority, Municipal Corporation, L&T and the Sewerage Board, not to undertake digging work without proper pre-study and coordination at the site to avoid inconvenience to the public.
The DC warned that negligence causing public harassment would invite accountability of the concerned department or agency and no laxity would be tolerated.
Officials from Torrent Gas, PSPCL, PWD, Municipal Corporation, Sewerage Board, NHAI and Irrigation Department attended the meeting.
