  • Eli Lilly is set to almost triple the price of its weight-loss drug Mounjaro in the UK from 1 September, increasing a month's supply of the highest dose from £122 to £330 on private prescriptions.
  • The price hike is causing private patients to switch to the competitor drug Ozempic, with sales of the latter reportedly surging by 500 to 600 per cent.
  • Eli Lilly said the price adjustment is to align with other countries and enable lower prices in the US, following concerns raised by Donald Trump's administration about medication costs abroad.
  • Trump previously highlighted the disparity in drug prices, citing a friend's experience of paying £88 for weight-loss medication in London compared to $1,300 in New York.
  • NHS patients prescribed Mounjaro will not be affected by the price rise as the health service has negotiated a discount.
