Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to strengthen healthcare facilities, and emotional well-being and institutional support for the students.

PAU Vice-Chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal said the MoU marks a significant step towards establishing a comprehensive and responsive healthcare support framework for students through structured referral services, emergency medical assistance, specialised mental health consultations and allied healthcare support.

PAU registrar Rishipal Singh said such mentoring systems provide important emotional and academic support to students, adding there was a need for professional medical partnerships capable of providing specialised intervention during emergencies and other critical situations.

DMCH principal Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander, who was the chief guest at the MoU signing ceremony, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment towards extending professional healthcare support and referral services to the university community.

He appreciated the university’s proactive initiatives towards student welfare and mental health support systems.

Dr Deepika Vig, nodal officer, Institutional Task Force on Mental Health, PAU, said the objectives include strengthening institutional coordination for emergency medical assistance, facilitating specialised healthcare referrals, promoting preventive healthcare awareness, supporting mental health and wellness initiatives, and enhancing communication among the students, parents, university authorities and healthcare professionals during critical situations.
