The dust has somewhat settled after our nation’s 15th General Elections. The Prime Minister and his cabinet have taken their oaths of office and allegiance. The appointed ministers have taken the oath to faithfully discharge their duties to the best of their ability as well as preserve, protect and defend Malaysian Constitution. Truly, it is an awesome responsibility.

Now the rakyat’s eyes are fixed on the huge task before each one of our ministers – to reset our nation. Without any fanfare, many of our ministers quickly sprang into action to understand the problems plaguing the various ministries. These are the parliamentarians who have caught our attention and we say, “Bravo! Keep it up!”

Just recently, we have our Prime Minister putting the people first when he heard the siren of an ambulance blaring behind him. Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim then ‘lent’ his police escorts to escort the ambulance. Truly, this is an amazing contrast to what we have seen in our nation. Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for your kind act of putting the rakyat first.

Many of us, the rakyat are observing and listening. We want to see right attitudes in all that we do. We want to see change and improvement. We want to see a reset in our nation. This is just the beginning and I hope the positive traits that we have seen in our leaders will catch on at every level. No more demeaning or vulgar remarks in our Parliament. No more shoddy work or silly excuses. No more selfish hidden agendas. We, the rakyat know it when our leaders put us first in their agenda.

To all our elected representatives, we know that the tasks before you are enormous. We want you to know that we, the rakyat, are backing you. We are confident that you will take your oaths very seriously and fulfill your tasks to the best of your ability. In times when you falter, we will press the ‘PAUSE’ button and not jump to conclusions. We want you to be on your feet again so that you can press the ‘RESET’ button confidently. Then, our nation as one, can ‘GO’ and achieve greater heights.

Fellow Malaysians, as we observe the many happenings in our nation, let us choose to start each day by writing down one thing that went well the previous day. Let us be slow to judge but quick to appreciate and give thanks. Whenever needed, wherever we may be, we too can always press the ‘PAUSE’ button so that we can ‘RESET’ and be on the ‘GO’ again.
