‘Pavane For An Infant’ heads to the Oscars 2026

THE National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) has proudly announced that the Malaysian feature film *Pavane for an Infant* has been officially selected to represent Malaysia at the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2026 under the Best International Feature Film category in Los Angeles, United States.

The selection was made by the FINAS Film Selection Committee (JKPF), comprising seasoned and professional industry figures.

The evaluation process adhered strictly to the guidelines set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

Directed by Chong Keat Aun and produced by Janji Pictures Production Sdn. Bhd., *Pavane for an Infant* has garnered multiple international accolades, including the Youth Jury Award at the 39th Fribourg International Film Festival 2025 and the Golden Silk Road Award (Best Screenplay) at the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival.

The film has also been featured and competed in several prestigious international festivals such as the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival (2025), 44th Istanbul International Film Festival (2025), 24th New York Asian Film Festival (2025), Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (2024), and the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival (2024), where it made its world premiere under the Asian Future Competition.

FINAS stated that the selection of *Pavane for an Infant* reflects the growing strength and potential of Malaysia’s film industry on the global stage. “FINAS will continue to empower local talents and productions to achieve greater excellence internationally,” the corporation said in a statement. - November 6, 2025
