Kota Kinabalu: Tungku Assemblyman, Assaffal P. Alian proposed to the Government to allocate funds to encourage higher voter turnout during the elections.
Assaffal raised concerns over declining voters turnout, saying sometimes during the election, only 55 per cent of voters went out to perform their duty.
“When divided, the winner may not even represent the majority in the constituency.
“Therefore, to increase voter turnout, we should consider providing a financial allowance for voters to cast their ballots,” he said.
According to Assaffal, if the Government is able to channel aid directly to the people’s account for other purposes, the same approach may be used for the election purpose.
