Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) and Ant International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enable global acceptance of Malaysia’s national QR standard, DuitNow QR, through Ant International’s Alipay+ wallet gateway.

The MoU was signed at MyFintech Week 2025 in the presence of Bank Negara Malaysia Governor, Dato’ Sri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour.

Expanding DuitNow QR Globally

The partnership will allow Malaysians to use their e-wallets or mobile banking apps overseas via Alipay+’s network of 100 million merchants. This significantly broadens the international reach of DuitNow QR and gives Malaysians a seamless payment option when travelling.

Tourists in Malaysia will also benefit from more interoperable payment systems, supporting the country’s efforts to strengthen its appeal as a travel destination and direct more spending towards local businesses.

Focus on Tourism, Security, and Sustainability

According to a joint statement, the collaboration will focus on four areas: driving tourism through cross-border payments, strengthening fraud prevention, developing local talent, and advancing sustainability.

The initiative supports Malaysia’s national target of attracting 45 million tourists ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026, with global campaigns expected to promote local enterprises and small businesses.

Commitment to Malaysia’s Fintech Growth

Ant International president Douglas Feagin said the company will continue investing in Malaysia to help reinforce its position as a fintech hub in Southeast Asia.

PayNet group chief executive officer Farhan Ahmad added that the MoU not only expands global acceptance of DuitNow payments but also sets the stage for deeper collaboration in fraud reduction, talent development, and sustainability, building a payments ecosystem that benefits Malaysians at home and abroad.
