
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday led the inauguration of Camp Hadji Suod B. Tan, the new headquarters of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 9B in Maimbung, Sulu, as part of the government's commitment to strengthening peace and security efforts in the province.
Named after the former mayor of Maimbung, the camp is built on a 1.8-hectare property donated by the Sulu provincial government in 2021, the camp features a four-story administration building, barracks, a firing range, and support facilities to enhance the battalion's operational readiness. Construction began in February 2024.
It will likewise serve as the permanent base of RMFB 9B, the Philippine National Police's mobile reaction force responsible for operations in Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Isabela City.
The commander-in-chief witnessed the turnover of 195 voluntarily surrendered high-powered firearms from Sulu's municipalities, highlighting the government's campaign against loose firearms. He also inspected the camp's facilities and received a handcrafted Tausug kris as a symbol of the province's rich cultural heritage.
Sulu Governor Abdusakur A. Tan II, Vice Governor Abdusakur M. Tan, Maimbung Mayor Shihla Tan-Hayudini, all 19 municipal mayors, and military and police officials joined the inauguration.
Following the event, President Marcos proceeded to Camp Gen. Teodulfo Bautista in Jolo to visit the headquarters of the Army's 11th Infantry Division before continuing his engagements in Zamboanga City.
