KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) is aiming to contest in seven parliamentary seats and another seven state seats in the 15th general election, its president-designate Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said.
Malay Mail reported the plantation and commodities minister as saying that these 14 seats are not more than the seats the party already has.
“We are experienced leaders but the party is new and we have a short time before facing the election, so we focus only on the seats we already have,” she was quoted saying at a press conference after meeting voters in Ampang.
PBM’s current seats were won when their incumbents stood on other political parties’ tickets in 2018.
This includes Zuraida herself, the Ampang MP who won on a PKR ticket then defected to Bersatu in the Sheraton Move in February 2020, only to quit Bersatu in May this year for PBM.
Besides Ampang, other federal seats held by PBM are Julau, where party president Larry Sng is the incumbent, and Tebrau, held by Steven Choong.
PBM’s state seats are Lembah Jaya and Sementa in Selangor; and Buntong, Malim Nawar and Tronoh in Perak.
Zuraida did not name the other seats that PBM is eyeing for GE15.
She added that PBM has started its tour of Perak, Selangor, and Johor to meet voters in seats the party holds.
PBM has applied to join the Barisan Nasional coalition and is waiting for approval. – The Vibes, August 20, 2022
