PARTI Bersatu Sabah (PBS) remains confident of playing a key role in keeping the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition strong and united despite the recent departure of two component parties, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP).
PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the party was unshaken by the development, noting that PBS had weathered far greater political challenges in the past.
“This is democracy. However, at the same time, stability and unity must not be overlooked, and this is where PBS continues to play its role,” he said during a community engagement event at Kampung Rungus Panansawa, Kiulu, on Thursday.
Joniston, who also serves as GRS Information Chief, said PBS’s strength within the coalition lies in its grassroots leadership and long-standing experience in navigating Sabah’s evolving political landscape.
“We have gone through various phases of change, yet our principle remains the same — to serve with dedication and to put the people first. PBS has always been a stabilising force within GRS, ensuring the coalition remains capable of fulfilling the hopes of the people of Sabah,” he said.
The Kiulu state assemblyman reaffirmed that PBS would continue to play an integral role in maintaining GRS’s credibility and unity through realistic and people-centred policies.
PBS is one of six remaining components of GRS, alongside Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Parti Demokratik Liberal (LDP), Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Sabah Bersatu (USNO), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat), and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
During his visit, Joniston also officiated the opening of a new agricultural road in Kampung Balabakan, highlighting agriculture as a key focus of Kiulu’s ongoing development plans aimed at improving infrastructure and residents’ livelihoods. - October 30, 2025
