Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) are expected to sign a memorandum of cooperation before the Chinese New Year, among others to strengthen Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for the 17th Sabah state election.

PBS Secretary-General Datuk Julita Majunki and Star Secretary-General Edward Linggu, in a joint statement, said for the purpose, a special committee which has been tasked to draft the scope of cooperation held its first meeting on Wednesday.

“Discussions in the meeting also focused on working out the details on how the parties can contribute towards the objective of strengthening GRS.

“Even though the present State Government’s term will only end in Oct 2025, nonetheless forging understanding between the two parties is necessary as there are signs the 17th state election could be brought forward to 2024,” said the statement.

Previously, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was reported as not ruling out the possibility of the Sabah state election being held earlier even though the term of the current administration will only end in Oct 2025.

The component parties of GRS are Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), PBS, Star, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), United Sabah National Organisation (USNO), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
