KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as the state moves closer to its next election.

The two parties said their shared priority remains on safeguarding political stability and ensuring continued progress for the people of Sabah.

In a joint meeting on Wednesday chaired by PBS acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam and STAR president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, both leaders made clear that they would not enter into any form of political cooperation with Umno or Barisan Nasional BN).

The parties noted repeated criticisms from Umno against the GRS-led State Government, stressing that their stand reflected a collective commitment to defending the integrity and independence of GRS as a coalition led by local parties.

They also clarified that while a formal arrangement exists between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Umno, GRS has never been part of such an agreement, adding that political decisions in Sabah must be rooted in the mandate of its people without outside influence.

On seat allocations, PBS and Star underlined the importance of fairness and respect within the coalition, reminding members of the GRS supreme council’s decision that the coalition would contest 55 seats to maintain grassroots confidence.

Both parties agreed that candidates should stand under the GRS logo, saying that unity, shared principles, and respect for each other’s roles will strengthen the coalition’s ability to serve the people of Sabah.
