MANILA, Philippines — The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) continues its search and rescue (SAR) operations for those missing from the sinking of MV Trisha Kerstin last week.
On January 30, 2026, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Technical Diving Group conducted underwater operations to locate the vessel. The day began with a pre-dive briefing to finalize the dive plan and safety protocols.
The dive team boarded the BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702) and proceeded to the vessel’s suspected location. A descending line was set at a depth of 164 feet to guide the divers.
However, the operation did not yield any results. Strong underwater currents caused the divers to drift one kilometer from the intended drop point, reaching depths of up to 187 feet. The team returned safely to Pilas Wharf.
The PCG assured the public that search efforts will continue, with all resources focused on locating the sunken vessel and the remaining missing individuals.
The vessel sank near Baluk-Baluk Island on January 26.
