MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) divers have entered the sunken passenger vessel MV Trisha Kerstin 3, marking a critical step in the ongoing search and recovery operations off the waters of Basilan.

Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) Commander Commodore Rejard Marfe said the divers from the PCG Technical Diving Group (TDG) safely accessed the submerged vessel as part of a detailed underwater assessment.

Marfe said the operation also led to the recovery of two cadavers on Tuesday, both of which were retrieved from the vessel’s railings.

The PCG earlier confirmed that the wreck was located about 1.8 nautical miles off Baluk-Baluk Island.

Operations are being conducted under an approved dive plan, with the objective of further assessing the vessel’s condition and supporting possible additional recovery efforts.
