PHILIPPINE Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Melquiades Robles was promoted from auxiliary commodore to rear admiral of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) during a ceremony held at the PCG headquarters.
Describing the promotion as an opportunity to strengthen his commitment to public service, Robles told The Manila Times on Wednesday via Viber that for him, public service is being present when people need help.
“It is about finding ways to respond to their needs and making sure that assistance reaches those who need it,” said Robles, who also held the top post of the Light Railway Transit Authority.
He cited the PCG’s importance as PCSO’s partner in transporting supplies and delivering assistance, particularly during calamities and emergencies when affected communities urgently need support.
“And we know that because the Philippine Coast Guard itself is our constant partner,” the PCSO chief said.
In his acceptance speech, Robles pledged to continue working with his fellow PCGA officers and personnel in the service of the people.
“Because at the end of the day, our positions, titles, and ranks are meaningful only when we use them to serve others,” he stressed.
Under Robles’ stewardship, the PCSO has introduced an online lottery platform, revamped jackpot systems, and strengthened partnerships to combat illegal gambling. Its charity fund has also seen increased support for health and social welfare programs for all local government units, particularly in the country’s remotest areas.
