THE Penang Development Corporation (PDC) has never given any land to the private sector to be developed into industrial parks, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
Chow, who is also Padang Kota assemblyman, said this was because PDC’s industrial land plots were at strategic locations and could be marketed to investors in promoted industries.
“However, PDC now faces constraints in developing new industrial land known as Batu Kawan Industrial Park 2 (BKIP2) due to its location and surroundings,” he said in reply to a question from Lim Guan Eng (Air Putih-DAP) at the assembly sitting today.
Chow also said the PDC has successfully developed nine industrial parks in the state.
He said the firm would continue serving as the main industrial land developer in Penang although several private companies were involved in some projects.
“With over 50 years of experience and expertise, the PDC is confident the industrial parks it developed will continue to attract domestic and foreign investors.
“The PDC will develop industrial land in strategic locations without involving the private sector,” he said.
Chow said the PDC would only collaborate with the private sector on land in high-risk locations.
He said the PDC has about 324ha of industrial land and would focus on developing the Cassia City Technology Park and BKIP3 in the eastern Batu Kawan. – Bernama, November 27, 2023.
