Home-based learning for students in Kota Setar and Pendang proceeds smoothly as parents adapt to ensure education continues despite the hot weather
ALOR SETAR: The Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah (PdPR) session for students in Kota Setar and Pendang districts began smoothly today following the hot weather conditions.
A survey found most parents were assisting their children with PdPR from home using various platforms like Google Meet, Google Classroom, and WhatsApp.
This ensured learning sessions were not disrupted despite the students’ absence from school.
Housewife Shahira Azizan, 32, said while she somewhat disagreed with PdPR over concerns about teaching delivery, she complied for the safety of her two nieces.
“I prefer them to go to school for more effective learning, but the weather is too hot, so I don’t want to take the risk,” she said.
She added that some friends faced constraints, such as having three children following PdPR with only one device at home.
Meanwhile, her niece Khayla Zahra, a Year Five student, said she felt more prepared for this PdPR session compared to the first one during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another housewife, Noraini Jusoh, 45, said the PdPR decision was appropriate given the recent hot weather, which could lead to heatstroke.
“At least with PdPR, they learn in more comfortable conditions at home,” she said.
The Kedah Education Department had announced the three-day PdPR implementation from today until Tuesday for schools in the two districts.
This followed both districts recording daily heatwave temperatures at Level 2 for three consecutive days.
