Yesterday (12 February), it was reported that a sanitation worker discovered a woman’s dismembered body at a refuse site in the Taman Indah Permai housing area of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, at approximately 7 AM.
The remains were found in a horrific condition, as the victim’s body had been severed into several pieces before being placed inside a black plastic bag.
Arrest of father and son
Today (13 February), the Kota Kinabalu District Police released a statement confirming the arrest of two local men, a father and son, suspected of involvement in the murder.
“Acting on intelligence, at approximately 4:30 PM on 12 February, a team from the Kota Kinabalu Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducted an operation in the Kampung Sri Kenangan area of Sepanggar,” the police stated.
“Witness reports indicated that the victim had been seen running out of a house in a state of distress before being dragged back inside by a man.”
Following this lead, at approximately 8:10 PM that same day, officers from the CID, in cooperation with the D7 and D9 units, arrested a 71-year-old man at the Emergency Unit of Queen Elizabeth II Hospital to assist with the investigation. The man’s 19-year-old son was also subsequently detained.
Motive and ongoing investigation
During initial interrogations, the elderly man admitted to his involvement and stated that the motive was believed to be a personal dispute regarding a demand for engagement money.
Further investigations are ongoing to complete the formal case files. The police request that anyone with information regarding this case come forward and contact the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) or their nearest police station.
