Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin has confirmed that an object, suspected to be a bomb, was found by a highway maintenance supervisor during routine landscaping work at kilometre 265 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) at 9.30am today.

Harian Metro quoted Noor Hisam as saying that the man was clearing vegetation in the area when he spotted the object resembling a bomb and immediately alerted the PLUS highway patrol unit, which contacted the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Following the report, a team comprising PDRM personnel, highway patrol officers and the Perak Bomb Disposal Unit was dispatched to conduct an immediate assessment and containment.

Furthermore, a section of the PLUS highway near Jelapang was closed by the authorities as a precaution.

The situation is now under control, and PLUS reopened the northbound lanes at 3.15pm. However, the southbound lanes are still being diverted to the Kuala Kangsar Toll Plaza to facilitate emergency response.

As a result of the closure, a 15-kilometre-long traffic jam has been reported in the area. Accordingly, road users are advised to take alternative routes or exit at the Kuala Kangsar Toll Plaza.
