The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain says that he is saddened by claims by the public that likened the district of Klang to Colombia due to alleged rampant crimes in the area.

Speaking at a town hall discussion session at the Klang Hokkien Society building in Klang, Selangor yesterday (29 January), Shuhaily said that he chose Klang as the first district to go on the ground as the JSJ director because he felt challenged by the things people say about the district.

Furthermore, the JSJ director stressed that the crime index is rising in the whole of Malaysia and not just in Klang.

Shuhaily asserted,

“The reason why I chose Klang as the first district to go on the ground as JSJ director was because of the rising crime index, the whole country is rising, not just Klang.”

“But when it became viral, it was said that Klang is a district like Colombia, that challenged me. That brings me down.”

The JSJ director then added that he’s very close to Klang as he used to represent the district as a Klang Municipal Council hockey player for 5 years from 1990 to 1995.

Later on in his speech, Shuhaily revealed that the Klang district has 1.2 million residents but the Klang Utara Police Headquarters only has 671 personnel and Klang Selatan has 849 personnel.

However, the JSJ director said that such a dichotomy shouldn’t be made an excuse for the police to not safeguard public order in the district.
