Last week, a young couple in JB went viral after they were caught having intercourse in the car at an empty parking space. They have since been released on bail, and according to the couple, they were recorded by individuals who pretended to be policemen.
But were they really the law enforcers? Not at all, according to PDRM in Tebrau, Johor, as confirmed by Jimmy Puah, Tebrau District Congressman via his Facebook posts.
It was also reported that the individuals who recorded the incident asked the couple to produce their IC, to which they did not. The couple was threatened and was followed, but the pretenders stopped following them when the couple drove to Pasir Putih Police Station.
Yesterday (April 9), Jimmy and a fellow lawyer, Tan Chia Wei went to Seri Alam police station to speak with the police regarding the matter, and they confirmed that the police will look further into the identity of the individuals who recorded the incident and masqueraded as police officers.
“The police assured me that a full investigation will be launched,” Jimmy told the media.
Jimmy also said it was likely that the couple may have misunderstood the recorders as real policemen during the incident.
“I’m not condoning the action”
Jimmy added that the couple is currently being investigated under Section 377D Penal Code, where 2 years of jail time is possible for the 22-year-old man. However, he assured the people that he is in no way condoning public indecency.
Jimmy revealed that aside from himself, many lawyers in JB are willing to provide free legal aid (pro bono) to the young couple. In the meantime, Jimmy also urged the public NOT to share the viral video on social media.

Pretending to be a policeman is a criminal offense, and we hope that the police in JB will manage to locate the perpetrators who recorded the incident and shared it on social media without consent.
