Recently, there have been many viral incidents involving police personnel offering bribes to road users to “settle” summons on the spot.
Two of these viral incidents involved foreigners who are YouTubers, one a British couple in Perak, while the other an Australian man in Langkawi. These incidents and other similar ones have unfortunately put a bad rep on our law enforcement officers, both locally and globally.

Well, another policeman may have just been caught red-handed being involved in corrupt practices too, as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) announced that it is initiating an internal investigation into a traffic policeman after he was found with over RM3,300 in cash while conducting an anti-drink driving operation in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
In a statement, Selangor Police Chief Dato’ Hussein bin Omar Khan confirmed that an inspection was conducted at the traffic department of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 2.30am yesterday (4 February).

He added that the inspection was carried out by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department on the traffic policeman who was carrying out an anti-drink driving operation or OP Alcohol.
The statement asserted,
“The inspection found that one of the traffic policemen with the rank of Sergeant had RM3,313 in cash on him. A further RM440 was found in his car.”

The Selangor Police Chief then revealed that an internal disciplinary investigation had been launched to determine if there was any corruption or breach of procedures involved.
Furthermore, the traffic policeman was also removed from enforcement departments until the conclusion of the internal investigation.
