The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) is currently conducting an internal investigation into a policeman who allegedly stashed red Ang Pow or money packets full of cash inside his locker at the Setapak police station.

As reported by Harian Metro, this was revealed by JIPS director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad who said that Bukit Aman has opened a disciplinary enquiry paper regarding the case.

The red Ang Pow packets were discovered during a random spot check

He added that the policeman was found in possession of the suspicious Ang Pow packets containing a significant amount of cash during a random compliance spot check at the Setapak Police Station. However, Azri didn’t reveal the exact amount of money involved.

Currently, JIPS is conducting investigations into the source of the money. The PDRM department director asserted,

“When we find money, we have to ask if it’s indeed their money. The red Ang Pows are also questionable, so we have to ask if the policeman was given the Ang Pow, who gave it and establish if there was any misconduct involved.”

Police personnel can’t bring more than RM100 when stationed in the field

Azri elaborated that according to the standard operating procedure (SOP), police personnel stationed in the field or outside operations such as roadblocks can only bring up to RM100 with them.

Should they bring more than RM100, the police personnel must declare the money to their supervisors. However, in this investigation, further questions arise as the Ang Pow packets and cash were found inside his locker.

Not the first time this week that a cop got into trouble for possessing large amount of cash

This is not the first time this week that police personnel have gotten into trouble for possessing undeclared cash on them.

On Monday (5 February), we shared how a police officer from the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) is being investigated for having RM3,313 on him and a further RM440 inside his car while conducting an anti-drink driving operation or OP Alkohol.
