The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has revealed a concerning increase in child abuse cases at daycares and children’s centres in recent history.
In a post on its official Facebook page, PDRM said that statistically, more than 1 child abuse cases at daycares and children’s centres were recorded daily over the past 5 years.

Specifically, a total of 3,666 victims were reported to have been abused at these centres nationwide from 2018 until June 2023 or in a span of 2007 days.
According to Bukit Aman Chief Assitant Director of the Sexual, Women and Children Investigation Division ACP Siti Kamsiah Hassan, the statistic is based on the record obtained by PDRM.
A total of 3,233 child abuse cases were recorded nationwide involving 3,666 victims.
Out of the number of cases and victims, a total of 3,264 suspects were identified, 964 of which involved babysitters, maids, daycare workers, guardians and husbands of babysitters.
The number of suspects also includes guardians of orphanages and victim’s teachers.
Siti Kamsiah added that the irresponsible attitude of individuals, especially those that only open daycare centres for profit was among the factors behind these abuse cases.
